Mitsubishi UFJ Securities International plc (MUSI) is the European capital markets hub of one of the largest financial institutions in the world, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG). Lease expiry at their Broadgate office provided them with an opportunity to improve their working environment and create an identity that reinforces their brand and position as a major global investment bank.
Located over two and a half floors at Ropemaker Place in the City of London, the fit-out includes a dedicated reception area and waiting gallery on Level 2 with adjacent client-suite incorporating a variety of flexible meeting rooms all with integrated AV and associated kitchen and dining facilities. Level 1 houses a 'bear pit' style trading floor for circa 300 staff with an elevated walkway around it to create a lively and energetic environment. Glass fronted offices and team meeting rooms are located around the perimeter to allow natural light to penetrate whilst a Japanese influenced deli garden creates an internal area of tranquillity for staff. Support functions are located on levels 2 & 3 in an open-plan environment that encourages collaboration.
Proud of their Japanese heritage, the scheme incorporates subtle and abstract references with details such as black lacquer joinery, silk fabric wall panels, bamboo flutes & veneers and simple textures.
The project presented several challenges, many in common with other financial institutions, including programme, budget and integration with the base building. Our role included full briefing services, monitoring the base building delivery, surveys of the building to identify design coordination issues, full design services, on-site monitoring and delivery.
